StitchGenerator 1.0 for 3ds Max

StitchGenerator 1.0 for 3ds Max-1

StitchGenerator is a script for 3ds max that creates stitch objects and an object to illustrate the holes between the stitches on the selected edges, along the splines or simply by drawing them. There are currently two types of stitches, stitches with circular outlines and those with flat outlines. They have the most commonly used thicknesses for a given type of stitch. The length of the stitches and the spacing between them as well as the rotation can be easily adjusted, these parameters can also be randomized to create extra realism. When creating stitches, materials for the stitches and holes are automatically created.

Functional description:

When StitchGenerator starts, materials for the stitch and hole objects are created, if there are already materials with the names in the scene, they are not created, but the existing ones are created. If your assigned render is VRay, a VRay material is created, if your render is not VRay, a standard physical material is created.

Stitch Material – The material for the stitch is a simple material, it is just a color with reflection and a normal map that makes it look like it is made of twisted wire. The textures used are stored in the userscripts folder under StitchGenerator, which can be found by typing > getdir #userscripts < in the MAXSscript listener (F11)

If you want to go a step further and do some close-ups, the stitches in this folder also have a displacement map that you have to apply manually to the stitches, as this depends on the render engine you are using and the size of the stitches.

Hole Material – The material for the hole object in VRay is a little more complex than the stich material, if you are not using VRay it is very simple, just black with an opacity map to make the edges a bit blurry and make the hole perfectly round without using too many polygons for the hole object.

For VRay the material also uses a reflection and normal map, this is to capture the highlights on the sides of the hole, illustrating where the hole goes into the object underneath it. To make this area outside the black part of the hole must be visible, by default it is brown and should be changed to the same color as the object you are stitching.
